The Principals of NKD Maritime Limited have been involved in the recycling steel business since 1993. They are experienced Bankers who ventured in to the recycling business through a start up, Electra Maritime. The Company soon became one of the leading cash buyers in the ship recycling business having Companies in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. During the period 1993 and 2003. The Company concluded in the region of 250 including over 30 VLCC’s from respected owners such as Shell, Mosvold, Krupp, Karnassis, Drytank, Troodos and British Gas. In 2003 the principal (Mr. Narinder Dheir) left Electra Maritime Limited and set up NKD Maritime Limited. NKD was established to become a niche player in the ship recycling business by primarily concentrating on special tonnage i.e. LPG’s, Chemical tankers, containers and reefers. Allied to this was the Companies perception that Green recycling was the future. To date NKD have concluded in excess of 280 deals.

Part of the success as outlined above has been the direct result of NKD’s recently partnering in India with the Shree Ram Group in December -2015, who are the only real Green and Environmentally safe recycling Group in the Indian Sub continent. NKD are Shree Ram Group’s exclusive cash buyers.
Shree Ram Group of yards have the following certification NK Class ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and OHSAS 18000 and BV class ISO 30000.Furthermore the Shree Ram yard NO.78 has been given the Statement of Compliance (SOC) by NK Class. All of the group yards Undertake recycling as per the HK convention and the next step is to apply for EU approval .Shree ram has the only dedicated facility for the safe removal of Asbestos (ACM from pipes and valves) at their yards in Alang, which does not require this facility being outsourced to a government company. This encompasses the use of Negative Pressure Asbestos Handling as approved by the European community. Shree Ram has 5 yards at Alang, all are equipped with facilities for removal of asbestos, PCP’s and other Hazardous material.
In 2015 NKD and Shree Ram were selected to recycle the MOSK LNG Aries (29000 LDT). The first LNG to be recycled outside China, this relationship with MOSK goes back to 2010 when NKD and Shree Ram were selected by MOSK to recycle the 3 Double Hull VLCC namely the Atlantic Liberty, Orion Trader and the Ohminesan (the first double hull VLCC to be recycled outside China) and in January 2012 MOSK also chose the group to sell its VLCC Atlantic Prosperity and tanker Glen Maye. Since then in 2014 NKD was also given the VLCC “Diamond Jasmine” from MOSK because of our past performance on the previous Vessels and ability to keep the details and name of the Vessel private.
NKD and Shree Ram were also selected by Neptune Orient Lines to purchase a number of their large container units on AS IS WHERE IS terms and also by NYK to purchase their first vessel sold for recycling outside of China again for green recycling. This year NKD and Shree Ram were chosen by Diamond offshore of USA to recycle their oil drill ship the “Ocean Clipper” into India.
NKD Philosophy is to work on a private and confidential basis with owners and other agencies on a discreet basis and to ensure all hazardous material is identified (green passport) and then successfully and safely removed and disposed (recycling plan).NKD are happy to buy vessels on an as is where is basis, or delivered to Pakistan, India (as mentioned above with particular emphasis on green recycling) or in to Bangladesh. NKD have close connections with and strong representation in all the main recycling areas of the Sub-Continent.
One important difference with NKD Maritime from other cash buyers is that they do not speculate, everything purchased is sold immediately back to back thereby avoiding the volatility of the demolition market, there have been many well documented bad experiences for owners in the past years as a result of other cash buyers speculating. Further to this NKD would like to stress that such is their standing in the market today and their confidence in the structure in place with their recently joined partners Shree Ram that all purchases are conducted in their own UK companies, No SPC is used in any of their purchases unlike other cash buyers who act as agents rather than as buyers themselves.
